March 9, 1996 Sybase Customers, The following represents problem reports that were resolved in System 11. This report is provided to aid you in identifying known resolved problems, should you encounter any during the operation of this product. The problems reported are ordered by importance (high to low), and then by problem identification. Our development process specifies that System 10 bug fixes be included in System 11 products. There are certain circumstances where this is not possible, specifically when: a) Problem fixes made in System 10 missed the cut-off date for inclusion. That would be problems resolved past the System 10.0.2.4 Rollup date of November 11, 1995; specifically those resolved after January 19, 1996, b) System 11 code implementations made specific problem fixes made in System 10 unnecessary, c) Problem fixes made in System 10 were believed necessary, but presented high risk of destabilization to System 11. Therefore, they weren't included in System 11. At present, there is only one problem that is associated with item c); 61628. Current plans call for these problems to be included in a subsequent System 11 maintenance release. In particular sybmultbuf no longer builds in a debugdir because libraries cannot be found. 59848 59689 attempted to create the script bs_view_init in $AUX/tools. However the eco was inadvertantly closed before checkin. This bug fixes the problem with checkin... 69687 wait_dump.sql. During the second dump, BackupServer message said "jackson is not a recognized sp_volchanged action", then it execute sp_volchanged immediately. Test hang after the sp_volchanged was executed. 67265 1 Backup Server: 4.6.2.2: Failed to create or attach shared tape i/o buffers - only seen on the solaris platform running on OS level SunOS 5.3 67304 1 During 7-stripe network dump: "Backup Server Internal Error: 4.62.3.8: Multibuffering subprocesses died, archive \$(DISKDUMP7); Backup Server: 5.4.2.6: RPC ('bs_end_dump') initialization fails." 68608 1 After chkin of parallel mgr code, dump & load hit stack trace: "Spinlock Resource->rlockmgr_spin at address ##### owned by #####"; generic for Cougar 1 platforms 68865 1 Backup Server won't compile on Solaris 2.4 without additional changes to port.h. 69127 1 Error messages are not raised for illegal commands to sybmultbuf. This may occur if the backupserver and sybmultbuf are not from the same release level. 69458 1 The Cougar backup server nightly build fails due to two header files missing from the build: tacerr.h & tac.h. The following files include them: bsmsgs.c, cmdline.c, tapedev.c, tape_config.c, tac_sense.c, tac_append.c & bgendev.c. 69506 1 backup/event/opensrv.c does not compile on HP nor Sun4. The HP compiler complains: line 1589: error 1705: Function prototypes are an ANSI feature. Sun4 complains: syntax error at or ne ar type word "void". 70395 1 During the a dump/load to/from a second tape, test replied it correctly. However, the test requested not to put a second tape into the drive. The output diff with a backupserver message 4.82.2.36: Operating system error, server device : code 28 70519 1 In bsrv negative test "usage", where bsrv fails to boot as expected, message 1.29.2.1 & 2.9.4.1 are now duplicated. New canon needed also. Should say open failed blah blah blah then reprompt. The reprompt happens without open failed message 71918 1 If an error occurs while writing to the database device during a LOAD, the initial OS error is not reported to the client. 72270 1 Backup Server is passing a byte stream device string to syb_open() with the trailing "::" string at the end. This string is suppose to be stripped before calling the API routines. 72728 1 Within the dump/load volume handling session, a bad replied then a good reply was issued. Label validation error: read of tape mark failed occured during the load of the second tape. 72788 1 Volume handling test that give a bad reply then a good reply during the dump and load session. "Label validation error: read of tape mark failed" during the load of the second tape. 72804 1 Load db from disk dump gets error 4.15.2.1: Label validation error: seek to trailer labels failed; also 6.32.2.[2,3] & 1.14.2.[2,3] 72811 1 Dump database to disk gets Backup Server 4.82.2.21: Operating system error, server device {dskdmp name}: code 22 message Invalid argument, with 6.53.1.1: OPERATOR: Volume on device {dskdmp name} cannot be opened for write access. Mount another volume. e 73649 1 Loading db from tape with blocksize outside of range give msg "Backup Server: 4.128.2.1: Failed to start multibuffering subprocesses for archive device...." This was due the checkin file "generic/basis/bdevopts.c@@/main/cougar/2" on 7/25/95. 73811 1 msg 304902, level 2, state 1 "Backup Server: 3.49.2.1: RPC sp_shutdown does not allow option wait." on svrhpdly: /svrhpdly_tst2/tst_si/hp800/testruns/950731_rerun/sybinit/backup1/DI FF/bs001b.out 76248 1 backup server fails to compile on nt. This stack trace also occurred in HP on QIC tape. 78814 1 In volume handling test (affqs21): database is dumped w/stripe on two QIC tapes parallel, then the database is loaded serial. During the middle of the load session backupserver error 4.82.2.27 & 4.9.2.3. 79361 1 In volune handling test: After the "ABORT" reply in the dump database to tape at a remote backupserver with init, error 3211 occurred and stack traced. The dump session showed Msg 7212 & "DUMP failed in database : error occurred executing RPC." o 80734 1 Volume handling test: Stack trace occur during the sp_volchanged with abort action in the "DUMP DATABASE to at " capacity=1400". Also see bugid 79361. 80863 1 backup server core dumps during remote dump to tape. Capacity set to 4.9 gig; tape device is 5g dat drive. 80937 1 Backup server error calling putmsgq. The dblib error handler is using the wrong srvproc and may be passing a dds struct as and auxtask struct. May cause many side effects. 83012 1 dump to a tape until no more physical tape left. Next dump will go into infinite loop. Each itteration error message printed: Backup Server: 4.9.2.3: Label validation error: read returned -1 reading label. 83186 1 list only on qic device displays an extra message: 4.82.2.25: Operating system error, server device /dev/nrst1:code 5 message I/O error. 83403 1 When the remote backupserver not up, the "dump/load database model to/from at with init" did not display Backup Server: 5.16.2.2. Run backup/nnot_up to reproduce bug. 68370 2 The backup server version strings are out of date. The version is 10.0.2/P instead of 11.0/A and the copyright year is 1994 and not 1995. 71401 2 MSGDB upgrade corrects two error major number definitions to conform to convention. BSSYS becomes SYSTEM and OPTPARSE becomes OPT. auxmsg.h needs to be changed. This could result in the wrong return value from this routine if success is to be returned. 74700 2 Error while compiling io/strategy/volume.c when FUNCTIONAL_PROTOTYPE turned on. vol_promptreply()'s functional prototype doesn't match with actual definition. 74887 2 File ../aux/generic/basis/shared.c needs #include . This cause a compilation error on AT&T GIS platform. 75176 2 Improve the readability of the following error messages: 103904, 104401, 104501, and 104701. All of these messages are incomplete sentences. 78608 2 Backupserver message number: 411502 should be updated to make it clear. The message should read 'unable to expand device name to fullpath' rather than 'unable to expand to device name to fullpath'. 80893 2 can't use UNC filenames for the dump device in dump and load on nt. (ie. \\server2\sybase\dumps\model_D.dmp). 80895 2 The system 11 backup server writes output to backup.log as well as the client.
