March 9, 1996 Sybase Customers, The following represents problem reports that were resolved in System 11. This report is provided to aid you in identifying known resolved problems, should you encounter any during the operation of this product. The problems reported are ordered by importance (high to low), and then by problem identification. Our development process specifies that System 10 bug fixes be included in System 11 products. There are certain circumstances where this is not possible, specifically when: a) Problem fixes made in System 10 missed the cut-off date for inclusion. That would be problems resolved past the System 10.0.2.4 Rollup date of November 11, 1995; specifically those resolved after January 19, 1996, b) System 11 code implementations made specific problem fixes made in System 10 unnecessary, c) Problem fixes made in System 10 were believed necessary, but presented high risk of destabilization to System 11. Therefore, they weren't included in System 11. At present, there is only one problem that is associated with item c); 61628. Current plans call for these problems to be included in a subsequent System 11 maintenance release. According to quan this is possibly caused by fix to 83533 46417 1 (UNIX) when we check to see if a filesystem has enough space we call syb_fs_freespace(). syb_fs_freespace() takes the available blocks (ulong) and multiplies it by the block size (ulong) and stores the result in a long. Langinstall executable, which is called by sybinit program has 11.0 and because of old .loc files languages are not being installed 71711 1 backup server configuration failed with: INTERNAL ERROR: Could not locate message number '108' for product 'Backup Server' in message cache. 71713 1 Interactive testing of sybinit fails with: INTERNAL ERROR: Could not locate message number '477' for product 'Backup Server' in message cache. This is the first thing you get when you type in: sybinit. 71853 1 Backupserver messages are in the foreign language instead of english. (sybinit, sql.c) 73486 1 The bugid 69424 that was fixed in the 10.0 sybinit codeline needs to be backported to the Cougar sybinit codeline. This is a very high- priority bug (a one-off EBF 4960 was sent to a customer for this problem). 73586 1 Hash tables for interface file need to be initialized earlier, to allow for interactive mode without parameter files. Otherwise core dump occurs in that case. 73691 1 DB-lib returns "attempt to initiate a new server operation with results pending." 73815 1 When Sybinit internally calls sp_configure to initiate/change charset sort order, get 'INTERNAL ERROR:"Cannot reconfigure server to use sort order ID XX, because the row for its underlying character set (ID Y) does not exist in syscharsets." 74014 1 Cougar has increased Sybsystemprocs by 4 MG. Sybinit and preupgrade will have to support this new requirement. 74259 1 Segmentation Fault - core dumped when run sybinit -r ss002a.srs -T IGNORE_WARNINGS on svrsoldl /svrsoldl_dtst2/tst_si/sun_svr4/testruns/950806-Sun*/t_driver.out 74410 1 When upgrading to 11.0 using sybinit: In the SQL SERVER UPGRADE screen, when we select checkreswords and after it succeeds, it prints out "there are no conflicts with 10.0 SQL Server reserved words". It should be " no conflicts with 11.0 SQL Server....." This cause problem in step 'adding new columns to all existing databases' if the datbase still in recovery. 80285 1 Versions of sybinit on global tape for different Sybase products are not compatibile with each other. Open Client sybinit (v 10) cannot be used to install SQLS11. Results are unpredictable. 80894 1 upgrading a system 10 server with software on C: and database devices on d: fails becuase the upgrade procedure changes the registry so that it's looking for the master device on c: instead of d:. 81164 1 Install French, and Japanese does not disappear from the language menu (it should). Install Japanese, and Spanish does not disappear from the language menu (it should). But french was successfully installed. 81534 1 default backup server errorlog is the same as the default sql server errorlog (as presented on screens or USE_DEFAULT in resource file). this doesn't seem like a good idea. 81542 1 got the following message (junk after 4.9.2) while upgrading from 4.9.2: Upgrading SQL Server jameison_492_upgrade from release 4.9.2./ðÀP to release 11.0 81825 1 file collisions exist with rep svr, connectivity et.al. in the */*/sybinit/sybinit.loc and sqlsrv.loc files for all languages (including English and all charsets). files need to be merged prior to rep svr port releases in early Jan. 81888 1 sybinit messages are not in msg number order in the source file. They are in a random order. Also, there are syntax errors in the Eng lish messages which propagate to the other languages. This causes big problems for localization. 81957 1 If it is unsafe to rerun upgrade, sybinit should prevent customers from choosing to upgrade a server that has failed during the execution of the upgrade binary. If it is dangerous, we want customers to be told so (they are used to rerunning upgrade in 10 82047 1 INTERNAL ERROR: Could not locate sybinit message number '464' and coredump when erroneously attempting to modify a name alias when a port doesn't have one (default is ''). 83191 1 core dump when sybinit could not find sybinit.loc or sybinit.loc error. Need to fix ex_raise to handle the case msg.loc is null. 83335 1 Need to change version of sybinit to 11.0.1 83338 1 Sybinit will invoke the 10.x "sp_checkreswords" which does not check for the new reserved words introduced in 11.0. Therefore, it does not reported the new reserved words. It needs to invoke the new "sp_checkreswords". 83354 1 sybinit cannot start dataserver. It builds master device OK,next it tries to update runserver file but aborts with "INTERNAL ERROR: Attribute 'bs_errorlog' does not exist". Then the dataserver fails to start. 83695 1 sybinit -l spanish does not work due to format problem in the locale file "sqlsrv.loc". The same problem existed for chinese. Rerun upgrade failed with error 2835 and infected with 11 caused by "sp_configure allow update". 85350 1 When 'sybinit' adds new network drivers to the 'libtcl.cfg' file, a description is not given. Unfortunately, 'libcomn.dll' will cause an access violation when encountering network drivers with NULL descriptions (bug ID 85351). 85733 1 'rs_tsk_configure_rssd_run()' fills the array 'version' with the SQLSrv version by passing 'version' to 'ss_version()' which in turn passes 'version' to 'sql_exec()' which in turn fills and pads 'version' to 255 bytes. But 'version' is only 20 bytes.e 67612 2 upgrade is not allowing sybinit to upgrade from 10.x servers to 11.0 server. 69223 2 The sybinit version number for cougar has to be changed to 11.0. sybinit -v still shows 10.0.1. 69783 2 Retry count and retry delay accept negative values as a result of overflow. e.g., type in 2345678901 and sybinit takes -1949288395 and writes to interfaces file. 70094 2 invalid language/charset attributes in resource file for configuing backup server does not cause errors. A backup server can still be configured but invalid language/charset in a resource file for sql server will cause the configuration to fail. 70096 2 sybinit will accept a number with decimal point as port number although internally it probably just checks for anything before the decimal point. So you can have a number, 12345.678 in your interfaces file. Such a number not accepted for retry-count,tho 74983 2 After configuring the SERVER's interface file entry on solaris, in the SERVER INTERFACES FILE ENTRY SCREEN under item 4, the protocol is displayed as "tcp". it should be "tli" instead, since we use tli format on solaris. 73579 4 This bug was created to get around the errors retuned by installmaster. This bug should be closed once buffer manager checked in their fixes.
