.TH gnarr 6 "December 12th, 2000" FreeD&D Gnarr .SH NAME gnarr - generate a dwarven battle cry \fBgnarr \fR[\fB-1m\fR] .br \fBgnarr -l\fR .br \fBgnarr -v\fR .br \fBgnarr -h\fR .DESCRIPTION Gnarr generates a dwarven battle cry using some preset templates. It is based on the Dwarven Battle Cry Generator that was in Dragon Magazine, with some additions. .SH OPTIONS .IP -1 Print one battle cry and exit (normal behavior, as opposed to \fB-m\fR). Suitable for use in scripts. .IP -h Print a help text describing command options. .IP -m Print battle cries, prompting for more after each one. .IP -l Print all replacements Gnarr can make to templates. You should probably pipe this to a pager. .IP -v Print version information. .SH FILES .IP \fB/etc/gnarrrc\fR,\ \fB~/.gnarrrc\fR Contains the templates Gnarr uses to construct battle cries; one is a global system file (installed with Gnarr), the other is user-specific. .SH TEMPLATES Gnarr constructs battle cries by randomly choosing a template from the list in /etc/gnarrrc and ~/.gnarrrc, and replacing certain words with randomly chosen words or phrases. For example, WEAPON is replaced by a random weapon name. .PP As of Gnarr v2, the words replaced are PLACE, ADJECT, ABILITY, INSULT, ITEM, EVENT, DEITY, WEAPON, TIME, and WORD. For an up-to-date list, and what words they can be replaced by, see \fBgnarr -l\fR. .SH BUGS Gnarr generates battle cries in Common, not Dwarvish. Also, it is unknown as to whether or not dwarves shout "Rice!" when entering battle. It is the opinion of the author that they do. .SH AUTHOR Joe Wreschnig is the author Gnarr. This idea originally appeared in Dragon Magazine. Gnarr is in the public domain, but you are encouraged to contribute new cry templates or substitutions back to Joe.
