This is the information from the FAQ on getting a copy of Moria. It is current as of 6/25/94. The following Moria files are available by anonymous FTP from ftp.cis.ksu.edu (IP address 129.130.10.80) or ftp.engg.ksu.edu (IP address 129.130.41.83). They should also be available by gopher from gopher.cis.ksu.edu or gopher.engg.ksu.edu, or from the WWW server at KSU: xmosaic http://www.engg.ksu.edu/welcome.html If you don't have FTP access, there is a mailserver which gives access to ftp.cis.ksu.edu; see below. If you can't use the mailserver, see further below for a BBS which has the files. The sources for Umoria 5.5.0 were also posted to comp.sources.games, so they should be available (in compressed shar form) on any site which archives comp.sources.games, such as ftp.uu.net. /pub/Games/Moria/[machine name] Executables for the Amiga, Atari ST, IBM PC, and Mac; look at the README files in these directories for more information. Some of these files may need to be transferred in binary mode; type "binary" before transferring the files. KSU has both color and monochrome executables for the IBM PC. European users can also get Mac binaries from jyu.fi, in a file /maclib/game/moria.sit.bin. /pub/Games/Moria/source/um5.5.1.tar.Z A compressed tar file containing the entire source, for use on any system; if you have tar on your system, this is probably the file that you want. (If you don't have compress, you can FTP it from ftp.uu.net; it is compress.tar.) This file must be transferred in binary mode; type "binary" before getting the file. Once you have the tar.Z file, type "zcat um5.5.1.tar.Z | tar xf -" to extract the files, and read the README files for help in installing. /pub/Games/Moria/pc/src/mor55src.zip A ZIP file containing the source. /pub/Games/Moria/XMoria/xm1.07.tar.Z The source to Moria for X Windows. /pub/Games/Moria/doc The documentation for Moria 5.5, including the official documentation, the FAQ file, and a complete monster list. /pub/Games/Moria/pc/mono5.5 The auxilliary files are in this directory; you may need them if you have an executable without them. /pub/Games/Angband The source to Angband for UNIX, and source and executable for the PC and Mac. /pub/Games/Moria/boss The source distribution, in Pascal, for BOSS. /pub/Games/Moria/vms The source discribution, in Pascal, for VMS Moria 4.8 and 5.0. Umoria 5.x will also work on VMS machines. /pub/Games/Moria/unofficial Other unofficial modifications of Moria, including the druid version for the PC, and the sources for Morgul and Pmoria. VMS sources for Imoria are available on ubvms.cc.buffalo.edu, in a directory /maslib/games/imoria. VMS Moria 4.8 and 5.0 sources are also there. Mailserver instructions (from Karl Hagen ): For all those unfortunates who don't have Internet ftp access, I've setup a mailserver to provide access to the archives on ftp.cis.ksu.edu. This mailserver can be contacted via mail one of the following addresses: ...!rutgers!depot!mailserver (UUCP) mailserver@cis.ksu.edu (Internet) mailserver@engg.ksu.edu (Internet) The server accepts commands given in the body of the mail messages; help is available with the command "help". A listing of the files in the story archive may be obtained by "dir -l /pub/Games/Moria". Since the files archive consists of binary files, they must be uuencoded before they are sent on their way. To specify this mode, use the command "encode uuencode" To retrieve the files, use the "send" command (ex: send /pub/Games/Moria/pc/mor55-286.zip If you have a system which cannot handle ZIP files, you may use the "unzip" filter ("encode unzip") which will send you the uncompressed (but not uuencoded) version of the file. Here is an example mail message: % Mail mailserver@cis.ksu.edu ~Subject: request help encode uue send /pub/Games/Moria/pc/mor55-286.zip ^D % Please note that this is completely experimental and is not bug free. Questions and problems about this mailserver may be directed to "greyhelm@engg.ksu.edu". BBS instructions (from Tom Sorensen ): I've been making the source code, DOS and OS/2 executables, and all the spoilers I have available on: Ravishing Nook (404)368-9949 2400-14.4k (V.32bis) Downloads should be available on first call.
