$Id: INSTALL,v 1.1.4.6 2005/08/04 11:40:12 becker Exp $ Basic Installation ================== 1. run the configure script ('./configure'). Resultants are the makefile and the header 'config.h' 2. run 'make' to build the executables 4. 'make install' installs the exectubables, the manual pages and the sample configuration file 5. copy the startup script in the appropriate place (/etc/init.d /etc/local/rc.d ..) `configure' Options ================================== The default path prefix is '/usr/local', resulting in the installation of 'nctop' in '/usr/local/bin', 'nctopd' in '/usr/local/sbin', the configuration sample in '/usr/local/etc' and the manual pages in '/usr/local/man'. Use following options to choose an alternative layout: --prefix default: /usr/local --bindir default: $prefix/bin --sbindir default: $prefix/sbin --mandir default: $prefix/man --sysconfdir default: $prefix/etc --with-port=VALUE default port (default 5000) --with-setgid=VALUE install daemon with setgid VALUE (default not used) --with-libwrap use the wrapper library A note on the usage of libwrap =================================== The host access file format support some extensions (see man hosts_options) which are not supported or may cause problems in case of UDP services. Keep the host access file in appropriate order to prevent libwrap from reading and applying one of these extensions, they may cause nctopd to abort. Nctopd is checking for a rule "nctopd :". Some OS specific notes ====================== 1. FreeBSD: At FreeBSD systems the daemon uses the kvm-library and needs special privileges for the device /dev/kmem. use: --with-setgid=kmem `configure' Invocation ====================== `configure' recognizes the following options to control how it operates. `--help' `-h' Print a summary of the options to `configure', and exit. `--version' `-V' Print the version of Autoconf used to generate the `configure' script, and exit. `--cache-file=FILE' Enable the cache: use and save the results of the tests in FILE, traditionally `config.cache'. FILE defaults to `/dev/null' to disable caching. `--config-cache' `-C' Alias for `--cache-file=config.cache'. `--quiet' `--silent' `-q' Do not print messages saying which checks are being made. To suppress all normal output, redirect it to `/dev/null' (any error messages will still be shown). `--srcdir=DIR' Look for the packages source code in directory DIR. Usually `configure' can determine that directory automatically. `configure' also accepts some other, not widely useful, options. Run `configure --help' for more details. `make' Invocation =============== Targets Desc. ----------------------------------------------- all make all binaries and scripts clean clean objects cleanall clean objects and results from all install install executables and manual pages deinstall reverse install process distclean clean all files from the `configure` run
